The goal of the Pharmacology course is to assure that our students obtain a thorough comprehension of the basic pharmacological principles necessary for developing effective and safe therapeutic regimens in the management of commonly occurring health problems. At the completion of this course, the student will be able to: Demonstrate an understanding of the terminology used to describe basic pharmacologic principles and drug classification. Discuss indications, rationale, efficacy and risks for commonly prescribed medications in primary care settings. Describe appropriate strategies for monitoring the expected effects and potential adverse effects of medications prescribed. Weigh factors such as cost, efficacy, age, quality of life to the appropriate medication for common primary care conditions.
