미생물 및 미생물 대사 다양성에 중점을 둔 미생물 생태학의 포괄적인 개요가 다루어진다. 강의 주제에는 미생물 다양성, 대사 다양성, 미생물 생태학, 미생물 생태계 및 미생물 공생의 특성을 포함한다. 또한 생명체의 구성 및 생존에 필수적인 원소들은 생명체가 사용할 수 있는 형태로 전환하는 핵심 역할에 대한 설명을 통해 생지화학적 순환에 대해 이해하고자 한다.
